This program was very active for several years and fulfilled a real need for our young families in the church. The brain-child of our former minister, The Rev. Dr. Jean Stairs, and continued for a year following her departure by Lorna Thorne, it needs a leader to start it up again. Meantime, what follows is a description of what the program has been.
Families of all sorts are welcome to this informal event that happens six times annually on a Friday evening. Parents, g-parents, aunts, uncles, single parents or guardians are welcome to this program. Recognizing how exhausting parenting can be, come and rest after a busy work week. Arrive as your schedule permits, any time after 5:00 pm. The program is from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and includes a simple meal that is child-friendly.
TGIF offers families a second or alternative experience to Sunday morning. If you have to work a Sunday shift or be away, TGIF gives your children (and you as parents!) a meaningful way to nurture faith.
After collecting your name tags, enter into the evening’s craft as a family unit. The evening will have a faith-based theme, which you will discover quickly! Following the craft time there may be a plenary activity and then a circle time for a brief time of story, prayer and singing (often with actions for the children!).
After hand washing and singing grace together, we enjoy a hot, comforting meal prepared by dedicated volunteers. A donation basket is circulated to cover meal and craft expenses. Of course, if you wish to make your regular church offering/gift as well at this time, you are most welcome to do so.
