How many men does it take to change a light bulb? None. “Real men” can see in the dark! At least, a lot of men try to. We’re notorious for not asking for directions and then pretending we’re not lost, we’re just exploring! Just Men groups are for men who would like to explore what it’s like to be a man of faith these days and who wouldn’t mind a little company along the way. We’ll get together and talk about things like
- work
- relationships
- stages in a man’s life journey
- men and women who’ve made us the men we are today
- male spirituality
- other “guy stuff”
Mostly we talk to each other. Sometimes we may invite someone to talk to us. We try to develop the spiritual practices of candor and confidentiality as ways of building a male network of support and encouragement as we claim the resources of our faith for being the men God wants us to be.
The Rev. Dr. Wayne Soble started the first group of 7 – 9 men around 2008, as best we can remember: informal but loyalties developed. Since then, 3 other groups have formed and each has been meeting every 2 weeks, more or less. Some have a topic for discussion, others follow their noses. But all meetings start with a “check in”, Wayne’s word for finding out what’s on our minds lately. With Wayne and Jean’s departure in June 2019, all four have continue to meet with leadership from members of the group and the support of our supply ministers, Rev. Joe Ramsay and Rev. Bill Smith.
