The Bible and the times we live in are filled with stories where marginalized people break repressive silence and speak against it. Explore the thinking of biblical prophets and theologian and biblical scholar Walter Brueggemann, as well as contemporary global voices speaking truth to power.

Sat. 27 Oct: Sharing the Path of Reconciliation,

A daylong workshop, 9 - 4, in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action Member of Parliament for Timmins - James Bay, author, activist for Indigenous rights.
Mr. Angus is well qualified to speak on our two themes: the fight for equal rights for First Nations children and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
The day includes two talks by Charlie Angus, drumming, smudge ritual, discussion, resources for future actions. A traditional hot lunch will be served by a chef from Tyendinaga.

It only costs $3 a person to defray expenses (BTW, kids under 12 eat free!) and we wrap up by 9:20 or so to give plenty of time to prepare for worship.

Come to breakfast this day and hear from Jean Stairs, our Syrian families, members of the West Kingston Refugee Partnership (WKRP) and friends from the Muslim community.

Sunday, November 25 – “Truth and Reconciliation: Are we There Yet?” In June 2015, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) released the Executive Summary to its final report documenting its findings and 94 “calls to action” aimed at redressing the shameful history and legacy of residential schools and advancing the process of reconciliation in Canada. Each of the seven flames in the TRC’s logo represents one of the seven sacred teachings common to Indigenous communities: Truth, Humility, Honesty, Wisdom, Respect, Courage and Love. Have we made any progress? Come and hear from Indigenous leaders.
