The scripture readings for Pentecost Sunday are Acts 2:1-21 and John 20:19-23. Rev. Bill’s Sermon is entitled “Blowing in the Wind.”

We welcome everyone to join us online for worship. If you have family and friends who would like to join us, let them know they can sign up on the front page of our website to receive notices and links to online worship.

From the Search and Selection Committee

Welcome Michelle!

Thank you to everyone who attended the Congregational Meeting on Sunday. There were about 110 connections on RingCentral and many of those had two or more people on the screen – about 140 in all. An excellent level of participation and a real sign of the importance of this decision to Call a new Minister. The Search and Selection Committee is very pleased with the unanimous decision!

We are pleased to confirm the Rev. Michelle Down has accepted our Call and the Region has approved… so, we are now in the happy position of being able to welcome Michelle. Lorna Thorne, on behalf of Council, is reaching out with an ‘official’ welcome and will send Michelle and Joyce some information so they can begin the process of joining our Edith Rankin Memorial United Church family.

We will continue to bring you any updates as we go through the next 90 days.

Donations

There are several ways of continuing to support the ministries of our congregation for the next few weeks when we are not “passing the plate.” Some of you already give through Pre-Authorized Remittance (PAR). If you would like to join the PAR programme, contact the Church Treasurer using this form. You can also give through Canada Helps, using PayPal, or by sending and e-transfer through your bank to the church email address churchoffice@ermuc.ca (make sure you specify to which fund you are directing your donation).  The first Sunday of each month we ask for donations to the Benevolent Fund to respond to local requests for urgent needs. Please indicate if you would like a donation to be directed to the Benevolent Fund.

Thank you to Spirit Sisters for leading our worship service last Sunday

Last Sunday Sprit Sisters led our worship service on the theme Colour!  What adds colour to our lives? What drains colour from our lives? Thanks to all the Sisters for leading us in a meaningful worship service, and to the many folks working in the background to make it possible to experience it “online.”

Honouring our VAMs and Minister Emeritus

What is a VAM you ask? Throughout the United Church, retired members of the Order of Minister (ordained or diaconal), or those working in other jobs, often contribute significant volunteer ministerial service in congregations. A common practice is to recognize these individuals as Voluntary Associate Ministers.

If a retired minister is no longer active in ministerial duties, the congregation can chose to honour their title and status by designating them Minister Emeritus, or “minister in title.”

Such is the case at Edith Rankin Memorial United Church. Next Sunday we will covenant with two Ordained Ministers in our congregation, The Rev. Dr. Paul Currie and The Rev. Dr. Neil Elford. Paul is retired and Neil currently works as the Director of Spiritual Health, Mission & Ethics for Hotel Dieu Hospitals. Paul and Neil will be recognized next Sunday as Voluntary Associate Ministers.

The Rev, George Lavery has a long history with Edith Rankin Memorial, and has decided to step back a little and be less involved in a ministerial role. The congregation will therefore recognize George next Sunday as our Minister Emeritus.

June Mini Anchor – call for submissions

Your Anchor Team thought that a publication for late June might be a fun way of keeping connected as we move into the summer months.  Let’s fill it with comments about our year  with Bill and Joe, and of course our feelings as we have worked our way through this Covid -19 time.  One or 2 sentences only.

To start you off:
Celebrate the ministry of our supply Ministers
THANK YOU BILL FOR…
THANK YOU JOE FOR…

Think about what Covid -19 has meant as a community of faith
ONE THING I HAVE REALLY ENJOYED DURING THE PANDEMIC IS…
ONE THING I HAVE REALLY MISSED DURING THE PANDEMIC IS….

Please feel free to use your own phrases, but we want to include as many as possible so we are hoping for a lot of “one-liners”

Please respond to us using the email in the email version of Tidings.  We will look forward to receiving your contributions!

Patti & Paul

We are all in this together

What do you need?

It’s hard for us to know how we are doing and what we might need when we are isolated from each other. Do you need some help? Do you need a phone call? Do you need someone to  pick up some supplies for you? Do you need someone to help with a household project (as a safe distance). Pick up the phone or use that contact form on the website to reach out.

What can you offer?

The current situation of physical distancing to mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus challenges us to do mission and ministry as a congregation differently. Are you wondering how you could offer your gifts and skills to these new challenges? Call the church office at 613-389-2530 or use the email contact form on the website to reach out.
