ERMUC Youth are active in a wide variety of activities as valued members of our community. Our Sunday morning program includes both time at worship with the entire congregation, and time together as a youth group community. This fall’s social activities as a youth group have included a trip to the Wolfe Island Corn Maze and participation in the annual Kingston Presbytery volleyball tournament.
One of the most exciting things about youth ministry at ERMUC is how talented our youth are – and in many different ways! An important value of our program is to encourage the various gifts and talents of our youth. Some are gifted musicians, and share their talents during ministry of music moments, as well as in our yearly youth-led service. Drama and dramatic proclamation of the Word has a long tradition at ERMUC. Our youth community includes talented writers and artists. And ERMUC has a particularly strong liturgical dance team, currently preparing to again lead us in worship during late Advent and beyond.
Our youth are also active in a variety of other ways. This fall, our youth have served communion, read scripture and taken part in our Remembrance Service, taught Sunday School and volunteered in the nursery, planted bulbs for the church’s gardens, and dished out “Stone Soup.” This year, we have a young youth group at ERMUC, with new faces as well as veteran leaders, so now is the perfect time to join us!
Our youth program and various social activities are open to all youth, grades 7 and up. Like Sunday School for children, faith formation for youth follows the lectionary and liturgical year, but with an emphasis on discussion connecting our stories of faith to the lives of youth today. When ready, many youth choose to take part in the confirmation process and make their profession of faith as members of the United Church of Canada. Many choose to participate in confirmation during one of their early years in the youth program. Our next confirmation program will begin in January 2012.
For more information about our youth program, please contact Justin Huyck, Children and Youth Leader. For information about our confirmation program, or if you wish to make an appointment about ministry with youth and/or families, please contact our minister the Rev. Dr. Wayne Soble, or Justin Huyck.
